One of Armenia's most sacred monasteries, Khor Virap sits in the Ararat plain against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Aragats. Dating to the 4th century, it is where Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned before converting Armenia to Christianity, the first Christian nation in the world. Painted during Madlen's 2005 journey to her ancestral homeland.
